Your local guide will pick you up after leaving the ship and you are ready for your shore excursion to Lanzarote today.
With your air-conditioned vehicle, which even has WiFi, you first drive into the Timanfaya National Park, an absolute must during your stay on Lanzarote! Discover the bizarre volcanic landscape, which is characterized in particular by the lack of vegetation, the shadow play of the volcanoes and a variety of colors. The area was formed in the 18th century after 3 volcanic eruptions that first devastated the region and today transformed it into a true natural beauty. During the trip through the lava landscape the enormous and at the same time enchanting volcanoes show up. In the national park you can also observe geothermal activities of the still active volcanoes, which take place only a few meters below the earth’s surface at temperatures of 50ºC to 600ºC.
Your excursion continues along the lava coast of Lanzarote. Marvel at the impressive rocky coast of Los Hervideros. When the hot lava hit the water more than 3000 years ago, a unique rock formation was formed. The raging waves, which hit the coast powerfully, form a real natural spectacle. You drive along the coast to the volcanic crater El Golfo. The crater is partly submerged in the sea and one of the most famous sights of the island. Inside the volcano, a lagoon has formed in which microscopically small algae make the water shimmer green, forming a fantastic contrast to the black lava sand.
Afterwards you drive on to La Geria, the largest wine-growing area of the Canary Islands. The region’s vineyards have been run by the region’s farmers for almost 3 centuries. Due to the peculiar construction of the fields, they look like a great work of art. Semicircular walls of lava stones were built around the individual vines to protect the plants from the trade winds. In addition, the vines are planted in funnel-shaped hollows. Due to the deeper location, the plants are better able to absorb moisture from the air. In this way, the farmers have remedied the lack of rainfall in the region.
After the numerous impressions your tour guide will bring you back to the ship in time.
