Detailed tour description
Your English-speaking tour guide will meet you at the agreed meeting point and your excursion will begin.
You will leave the most nothern capital of the world, Reykjavík and set out on the famous “Golden Circle” route. This well-liked tour takes you to the most famous sights around Reykjavík in just one day. On your way there, your tour guide will tell you more about the land of contrasts and its unique natural spectacles.
You will make a first stop in the small local community Hveragerði, which is built on a geothermal area. Here you can use the time to visit a small earthquake exhibition or have a coffee.
You will then continue your journey and arrive at the waterfall Faxi. Here your tour guide will inform you on the alleged reason for the strength, beauty and intelligence of the Icelanders: flatbread with smoked lamb. Do not miss a taste of this traditional Icelandic snack with a malted drink! You also have some time to admire the small but beautiful waterfall.
After this refreshment we will continue to the impressive waterfall Gullfoss, which is also known as the big brother of the waterfall Faxi. The waterfall plunges over 30 meters in depth and is considered one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. You can get so close to the waterfall that you can feel its splashes on your skin. With a bit of luck, you will also see a rainbow that often emerges within the canyon. You will also have the chance for photos in front of this unique backdrop!
The visit to a geyser will not be missing on this tour either. Even if “the Great Geyser” in Haukadalur does not break out often, you can still admire this sight on the slightly smaller geyser “Strokkur“, which throws boiling water meter-high into the air every few minutes. Here you will have plenty free time to explore the area and see the geyser from the hillside from various angles. There is also a nice souvenir shop and some restaurants where you can have your lunch.
The last highlight of your trip is the National Park Þingvellir. As you stroll through the park, you are geologically on “no man’s land” as the North American and Eurasian continental drifted apart. Here your guide will tell you why this park plays a special role for Icelanders both historically and scenically. You will also have enough time to explore the park with its stones and stories.
After this unforgettable day, your tour guide will bring you back to your ship in time.
We wish you an impressive shore excursion in Reykjavík!
