This lively city is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau. Helsinki shows its soul in the cobbled streets, the serious-looking churches and lively street markets. In summer, the beaches and islands will welcome the sea.

Tour description

Your tour guide will be waiting for you at the agreed meeting point and will take you on your shore excursion in Helsinki. The capital of Finland is located in the south of the country on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and was founded in 1550 when Finland still belonged to Sweden. With a good 630,000 inhabitants, Helsinki is by far the largest city in Finland.

First, this tour takes you to Kaivopuisto – this neighborhood on the waterfront invites the locals to relax. There are many embassies as well as Michael Church here.

Continue through the central streets of Helsinki to the original Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the Church of the Rock. Afterwards you will visit the monument of the famous Finnish composer Sibelius.

Sibelius is considered one of the most important composers in Finland and one of the few who became famous beyond the borders of their homeland. In German-speaking countries he is mainly known for his Violin Concerto in D-minor Op. 47 and his symphonic poems, in which he worked with Finnish legends and myths, such as the Finnish national epic Kalevala. After this stop, you will pass the Finnish Opera House, the National Museum and the Parliament to the train station square, the busiest corner in the city.

Through the Senate Square and the North Harbor, you’ll reach the Katanajokka district with its beautiful Art Nouveau buildings and Uspenski Cathedral. The Uspenski Cathedral is the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe. It was built in 1868 from red bricks and is crowned by thirteen golden domes. From there you have a wonderful view of Helsinki, its harbor and the Gulf of Finland.

After this extensive city tour you will go or ride (depending on your berth) back to your cruise ship. Alternatively, you have the option of continuing your shore excursion in Helsinki on your own and returning to your ship independently.

We wish you an exciting shore excursion in Helsinki!

Note: Inside visit of the churches are depending on opening times and are only possible when there is no church service.
