Your tour guide will welcome you at the agreed meeting point and you will start your shore excursion to Malta today. This tour begins with an exploration of the so-called “Three Cities”: Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea.
Let’s start with the panoramic bus passing Cospicua (Bormla) and heading towards Vittoriosa (Birgu). The peninsula is bounded northwest by Kalkara Creek and to the southeast by Dockyard Creek. Here you can take a guided walk through the many narrow streets in the shade of numerous impressive historic buildings and churches.
The next destination of the excursion is Senglea (L’Isla). This peninsula is located south of Valetta in the Great Harbor. It was founded in 1551 and named after the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Claude de la Sengle. Today shipyards are settled here and there are many docks with imposing port facilities and a lot of maritime scenery. At the extreme tip of the peninsula there is a military vantage point – the so-called Vedette. From here you have a wonderful view of the Three Cities and Valetta.
From here you will continue by coach to the south of the island. Your next destination is the Zurrieq Valley, where you have the optional opportunity to take a boat trip to the world famous Blue Grotto (not included). The Blue Grotto is known for its beautiful azure water. Then you will continue the tour passing fields and vineyards up to the idyllic fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Here you can admire the Luzzus – Maltese fishing boat painted in typical colours. The bay was once the landing scene of Turkish and French troops in Malta’s heroic past.
At the end of the excursion, your tour guide will bring you back to your cruise ship.
