Useful information for your excursions in Oslo

A map of the cruise port as well as lots of useful information about famous sights or important tips for cruise shore excursions in Oslo for you are all below.

The most beautiful tourist attractions

Oslo is best known for all of its great museums. The capital of Norway, however, has much more to offer. The most important sights and tips for shore excursions are listed below.

National Gallery of Oslo

The National Gallery Oslo looks back on almost 200 years of history and offers an impressive collection of paintings. It is probably best known for the famous art work “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. The National Gallery is open daily except for Mondays.

Norsk Folkemuseum (Norwegian Museum of Cultural History)

Another interesting museum is the Norwegian Museum of Cultural history. It is a special open-air museum. Over 150 historic houses and many other cultural exhibits can be found here. These exhibits really give visitors a feeling of traditional Norwegian life.

Holmenkollen is a large ski jumping hill and undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist attractions in Norway. The “ski jump” is an expression of a proud skier nation and also offers a sublime view over Oslo. Inside you can also find the Holmenkollen Museum.

Akershus Fortress

You can visit the Akershus Fortress located not far from the cruise terminal. The building was built in the 14th century as a bullwark and later was expanded into a castle.

Nobel Peace Center

Oslo’s Nobel Peace Center hosts exhibitions on various issues about peace, conflict and wars. The center is located next to Oslo City Hall.

Oslo Opera House

Oslo Opera House is located directly on the harbor front. With its large glass front, the opera house is one of the most striking buildings in the capital. Rooftop terrace also offers scenic views over the fjord of Oslo.

Map of cruise port in Oslo

When cruise ships make their journey to Oslo most ships dock at the cruise terminal in Akershus. Additionally to the Søndre Akershuskai terminal, Oslo offers 3 other berthing places for cruise ships. The Revierkaia and the Vippetangkaia are close to the city center as well and near the Akershuskai terminal. If you want to explore the city center from here it will probably take you 10-15 minutes by foot. Another oppertunity for cruise ships, is to dock at the Filipstadkaia. This pier is especially used by big ships, since this pier is not as close to the center of the city as Akershuskai, Revierkaia or Vippetangkaia. Even though this moorage is a little futher away, the distance to the city center is only 600 meters longer than from the other berthing places. Hence, the city center can easily be reached by foot as well. In order to plan your stay as best as possible you can inform yourself in advance about the port calls.

Generally it applies to all berthing places, that the walking distance from each particular pier to the city center is really short, which offers the perfect opportunity for excursions on one´s own.
