Useful information for shore excursion in Ocho Rios (Jamaica)
Below you will find information about the most beautiful sights, a map of the cruise port as well as many useful information about Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
The most beautiful attractions in Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios is located in a bay and is one of the smaller cities with only about 10,000 inhabitants. However, it is the most important cruise port of Jamaica. Like Montego Bay and Falmouth and other major ports for cruises, Ocho Rios is located in the north of the island.
In the past, Ocho Rios was a small fishing village that has evolved considerably over the time since its tourism has developed. Today, this place welcomes annually most of the cruise ships in the country.
If you want to explore Ocho Rios on your own, a visit to the nearby Ocho Rios Bay Beach is definitely worthwhile. Here you can rent deckchairs and relax on the beach. This beautiful white beach offers great photo opportunities. In the city you also have plenty of malls for extensive shopping.
In addition to exploring Ocho Rios itself, the city’s top location makes it an ideal starting point for numerous cruise shore excursions to many attractions in the surrounding area.
Dunn’s River Falls
Just minutes from Ocho Rios you can find Dunn’s River Falls – one of the island’s main attractions. Don’t just admire these water falls from a distance, come nearer and experience going down the slope or climbing up step by step.
The rock steps are mainly arranged so that you can climb them alone or with the help of other visitors or your guides step by step. Over a distance of almost 200m/ 656ft, the waterfalls finally flow into the Caribbean Sea.
You can also take a break in between to bathe or relax in the wonderfully warm water. If you prefer to enjoy the impressive view of the waterfalls in some distance, you can also do this on a staircase next to the waterfalls.
This visit will surely give you unforgettable memories. However, you should expect a large number of visitors, especially when several cruise ships dock at the same time.
If you prefer to spend your time relaxing by the sea, you should also visit Bamboo Beach Club located at one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. In addition to food and drinks, entertainment show will definitely excite you with sensational reggae music, dancers and acrobats. An access to the beach including a beach chair costs $11 per person per day. You will be rewarded with a dreamy beach, warm water and breathtaking view.
Bob Marley Museum
A drive from Ocho Rios to Kingston is absolutely worth the time, regardless of whether you are a solid follower of reggae music or not. Who could ever represent the Jamaican musical genre and the country better than Bob Marley. In his museum, you will have a private insight into the life of this world-famous artist.
Different tours will be dedicated to different topics. Thereby you can visit Bob Marley’s former home and follow his footsteps. For example, a tour may take you to the bedroom and personal recording studio, along with personal memorabilia such as one of his guitars. The adjacent “One Love” café and the shop will give you time to recall today’s impressions or to secure one of the souvenirs for your family and friends.
At the famous Tuff Gong Studios, you can have an exciting glimpse of his lifetime’s musical work. You can also experience the process of making music, from the first demo to the finished album.
