Maps of cruise terminal in Copenhagen

The port of Copenhagen has 4 cruise terminals with several berths for cruise ships: Langelinie, Nordre Toldbold, Freeport Terminal and Oceankaj.

The cruise terminals are located north from the city center. Most frequently Langelinie Pier and Oceankaj are used by cruise ships. The Freeport Terminal is used rarely nowadays and at Nordre Toldbold only small ships can berth.

In fine weather, shore excursions on your own in Copenhagen are possible from the centrally located cruise terminals Langelinie Pier and Nordre Toldbold. A long leisured walk to the center of Copenhagen takes around half an hour. The berths at Oceankaj and Freeport Terminal are located far outside of the city center. If you berth at one of these terminals you should take a taxi, an organized shuttle bus or other transportation.

Things to know before you visit Copenhagen

Shipping companies and routes

Almost every cruise line offers cruise trips to Copenhagen. NCL, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess and many other lines also dock at Copenhagen during their Baltic sea cruises every year.

Immigration and visa

Copenhagen is a cruise destination in EU and Schengen area. US citizens don’t need to apply for a visa to visit Copenhagen if their stay in Copenhagen is under 90 days.

However, if the cruise route calls at ports outside the EU (such as St. Petersburg), it may be necessary for the cruise line to request a valid passport. Exact details can be found in the regulations of the cruise line.

Taxi and public transports

Copenhagen offers an excellent network of public transportation, consisting of busses, metro lines, trains as well as harbor busses.

Bus line 26 transfers visitors from the cruise terminals Langelinie Pier, Nordre Toldbold and Freeport. From Oceankaj guests can take the bus 25, 27 or 164. The buses transfer visitors from the terminals to one of the metro/ subway stations of Copenhagen which stops at the most important sights in the city center. To be on the safe side, you should check the different routes, rates and departure times beforehand.

For more convenience you may prefer to take a taxi. However, the taxi prices in Copenhagen are not cheap. As a further alternative you may also consider to buy a ticket for the Hop-On/ Hop-Off buses to explore the city.

Currency

The national currency of Denmark is the Danish Krone (1 euro = 7.4 krones, 1 pound = 8.28 krones, 1 dollar = 6.43 krones). At some popular attractions Euro can also be accepted. For private shore excursions, it is recommended to exchange to Danish Krone in advance or withdraw from an ATM.

Travel time

The cruise port of Copenhagen is a classic destination for summer cruise trips. There are also some trips in Spring and Autumn, but not in Winter.
