The most beautiful attractions in Bodrum

Cruise passengers entering the Turkish port of Bodrum first will see the mighty crusader castle of St. Peter, which lies between the large marina and the bay. Gulets, the traditional Turkish sailing yachts made of wood, commute on the salty, blue waters of the South Aegean, bustling sidewalk cafes and beach clubs that stand on wooden pillars line the shore. Around the harbor are small bars and restaurants serving Turkish specialties and fresh fish.

Characteristic of the coast around Bodrum are the thousands of small islands and bays. Therefore, this area is also an absolute sailing paradise. In addition, Bodrum has ideal conditions for surfing, diving and all other types of water sports.

You can relax and enjoy a nice swim at the Gumbet Bay nearby and or at Bitez and Camel Beach.

Bodrum belongs to the province of Mugla in southwestern Turkey. The cosmopolitan Turkish city, at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, with the picturesque harbor fascinates us with a harmonious fusion of 3000 years of history with the present modern time.

A beautiful cityscape with cubic, whitewashed houses, winding streets and a palm-lined waterfront makes the charm of the city. Bodrum is often referred to as the St. Tropez of Turkey and is the most exclusive beach resort in Turkey, known especially among young people who go to Bodrum for the trendy party scene. But also those who are interested in the culture as well as nature lovers will find plenty of opportunities to explore here in Bordrum.

Bodrum, once Halicarnassus in ancient times, is one of the most famous ancient cities in this area. Under the Carian ruler Mausolos (377-353 BC), Halicarnassus experienced its heyday and its magnificent tomb, which was considered one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. The remains of this very first mausoleum were eponymous for all successor buildings.

In the Middle Ages the Knights of Rhodes had a stronghold here. The mausoleum was used as a quarry to build an enthroned Crusader Castle of St. Peter at the entrance of the harbor, which is today the landmark of Bodrum. The castle is still very well preserved and bears witness to a unique architectural style mix..

Further remains of the ancient world are the Myndos Gate with parts of the city wall as well as an amphitheatre, where you can enjoy the best view of Bodrum at sunset.

In the castle is the Underwater Museum of Bodrum, which is one of the best and most worth-seeing museums in Turkey. The main attraction is the ship of Uluburun, a wreck from the Bronze Age which was later lifted together with freights and equipments, as well as various other underwater archaeological findings. Also the big bazaar below the castle is worth a visit. There you can buy until late in the evening classic products and souvenirs such as clothing, pottery and carpets.

Milet Didyma – Euromos

The three main cities of ancient Ionian are easily accessible on a day trip in the area. After about 2 hours drive from Bodrum, you will reach the area of Miletus. There you can visit the ancient city, which is the largest ruins of the Turkish Aegean era.

Didyma was the main sanctuary of the ancient Miletus and famous for its The Oracle Temple of Apollo. Originally consisted of over 120 pillars, the Temple was considered the most important oracle in Anatolia (Asian Minor).

The ancient city Euromos is also especially well-known for its Temple of Zeus that still stands until today after more than 1,800 years. The temple impresses with its idyllic location amidst olive groves as well as the state of preservation of the temple itself.

Basically you can travel to Turkey at any time of the year, for winter in Turkey is only about 18 °C and quite mild. The bathing season begins in April and lasts through August until October. Summers, however, can be as hot as 30 °C / 86 °F here. April and May are ideal for your trip because the weather is not too hot.
